WISE was developed using .NET 2.0 framework along with MS SQL Server 2005 for backend storage and reporting. The GIS functionality was implemented using MapGuide Open Source Server and MapGuide Web API. The system also provides digitizing features to the users at runtime.
WISE, the Watershed Information Services Environment, is a pioneering attempt to correct this imbalance. WISE aspires to be the new paradigm for integrated watershed management by helping stakeholders meet their objectives while also advancing science-based approaches for the prudent governance of all watershed resources. It will accomplish this by allowing individual stakeholders to: |
- Easily access specific information - spatial and historical views of data, documents, maps or photographs - required for long-term planning or making day-to-day decisions
- Use this information with advanced applications already available on the WISE platform, or with third-party desktop or server-based applications
- Collaborate and share information with other WISE users, or work independently with their own proprietary/confidential data
- Share costs to make WISE affordable even for small NGOs and public/environmental interest groups

Though open and collaborative, WISE will allow stakeholders to maintain complete ownership and control over third-party access to their own data and resources.
WISE is designed for use by all watershed stakeholders working independently or collaboratively, as their changing needs dictate: |
